More Than Cattle: Meet the Animals of Pole Creek Ranch
While Red Angus cattle are at the heart of Pole Creek Ranch, they’re far from the only animals that call this place home. From our playful goats and beloved mini donkey to the horses that graze our pastures, the ranch is full of four-legged personalities that add even more life, charm, and character to the land. Together, they help create the warm, authentic ranch experience guests come here to enjoy.
The G.O.A.T.s
Our goats may be small, but they bring a whole lot of character to ranch life. Venus, Serena, Michael, and Prince are some of the most popular residents at Pole Creek Ranch, especially with guests staying in our vacation rentals. Friendly, curious, and always hoping for a snack, they’re quick to make friends with anyone who stops by to visit. We even keep goat treats in the houses, making feeding them a favorite part of the guest experience. Each one has a personality all their own, but Serena is especially known for her adventurous streak and occasional fence-jumping wanderings. But she’ll always come back to her G.O.A.T. friends.
Henry The Mini Donkey
Henry may be small in stature, but he brings oversized charm wherever he goes. Known around the ranch as our hardest-working bartender, Henry is a guest favorite at weddings and special events, serving ice-cold beverages from his custom drink baskets with plenty of personality to spare. He has a natural way of winning people over, whether he’s charming little ones, entertaining aunts and uncles, or posing patiently for photos with guests. Henry lives alongside our horses and fits right into ranch life, even if he’s a bit shorter than the rest of the crew. With his sweet face, photogenic nature, and unforgettable character, Henry has become one of the most beloved residents at Pole Creek Ranch.
The Horses
Zsa Zsa and Dan are among the longest-standing residents of Pole Creek Ranch and have become a familiar, beloved part of life on the property. Zsa Zsa, our beautiful blond Palomino Quarter Horse, was originally brought to the ranch for cowboying, and she still carries all the beauty and spirit you’d expect. Dan, now a very old gentleman, has fully embraced the quieter side of ranch life and is happiest soaking up the sun and enjoying a well-earned nap. The two share a sweet bond and make sure to give each other plenty of love over the fence each day. Set in the center of the property, they’re as much a part of the scenery as they are the spirit of the ranch.
Guest Horses
In addition to our own resident animals, Pole Creek Ranch has long been a welcoming place for horses in need of room to roam, rest, and simply be horses. Our wide-open mountain meadows and beautiful pastureland have provided a home away from home for everything from young Canadian bucking horses needing space to grow and play, to horses belonging to neighboring ranches and even guests staying in our vacation rentals. The ranch has also served as an important refuge in times of need. During the Flat Fire, our main barn stalls and many of our pastures became a sanctuary for evacuated horses, offering safety and peace during a difficult time. Providing that kind of space and support for the community is something we’re deeply proud of, and Pole Creek Ranch will always be a place where animals are welcome when they need it most.
In Loving Memory of Bubbles
Bubbles will always be part of the story of Pole Creek Ranch. For 27 years, she brought joy, wonder, and unforgettable character to life on the ranch, becoming a beloved icon not only here, but throughout Sisters and far beyond Central Oregon. She welcomed visitors of all ages, turned ordinary ranch moments into lasting memories, and always gave people a story to take home with them. Whether she was watching over her goat friends, charming guests, or making the occasional parade appearance, Bubbles had a way of making herself unforgettable. She was truly one of a kind, and while she is deeply missed, her spirit remains woven into the heart of the ranch.
